Dr. Tom Khiem Tu is a dedicated general dentist and healthcare leader committed to expanding access to high-quality dental care for underserved communities. Since June 2021, he has served as Dental Director at Via Care Los Angeles, where he oversees the dental department and provides comprehensive general dentistry services. In this leadership role, he is responsible for departmental operations, clinical oversight, and advancing patient-centered care within a community health clinic setting.
Prior to joining Via Care, Dr. Tu served as Lead Dentist at Family Health Care Center of Greater Los Angeles (FQHC) from July 2016 to June 2021. There, he managed the dental department while delivering general dental services and contributing to organizational excellence as a member of both the Quality Improvement Committee and the Corporate Risk Committee. Concurrently, he worked as a Per Diem Dentist at Saban Community Clinic (FQHC) from November 2015 to September 2018, providing care to low-income and underserved patients at the WAC Health Center. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Buena Park Smile Group (May 2015–July 2016), SmileCare Family Dental and Orthodontics as Managing Dentist (March 2014–May 2015), and Grand Smile Care (August 2013–August 2014).
Dr. Tu earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry in June 2013, following completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine in June 2008.
A committed leader, Dr. Tu previously served as Co-Chair of the CCALAC Dental Director Roundtable (2022–2025), concluding his term in 2025 after successfully transitioning leadership to the next co-chair. He is also a member of Cohort 11 of the NNOHA Oral Health Leadership Institute (2022–Present; expected graduation September 2023). During dental school, he was President of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity (2011–2012).
Dr. Tu emphasizes preventive care, patient education, and empathetic communication, striving to build strong professional relationships while improving oral health outcomes in communities with limited access to care.
