Dr. Amanda Freeman, PhD, PMH-C, is a highly experienced clinical psychologist with a diverse background in both educational and clinical settings. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University, NY, in 2011, after completing a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology with honors at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dr. Freeman’s professional expertise is extensive, covering areas such as perinatal mental health, fertility counseling, trauma, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She is a certified specialist in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) and has undergone advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), with a focus on treating trauma. Additionally, she holds certification in fertility counseling and has completed a rigorous Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center.
Throughout her career, Dr. Freeman has held various significant clinical roles. She is the Owner and Director of Headway Therapy Psychology PC in San Diego, CA, where she provides individual counseling to adolescents and adults, supervises a group practice, and specializes in perinatal mental health and trauma therapy. Her previous roles include working at CRF Turning Point Crisis House and CRF Vista Balboa Crisis House in San Diego, where she provided crisis management, individual and group counseling, and conducted behavioral health assessments for clients with chronic mental illness and substance dependence.
Dr. Freeman is also an accomplished academic and has contributed to various professional boards, including serving as Training Chair for the Postpartum Health Alliance from 2019 to 2021. Her research work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented her findings at several national and international conferences.
