Dr. Danny Lascano is a board-certified general surgeon, fellowship-trained in surgical oncology, practicing in California’s Central Valley. His clinical work includes hernias, gallbladder disease, bowel pathology, and abdominal trauma. His clinical interests include melanoma and colorectal cancer. As a Qualified Medical Evaluator, Dr. Lascano performs medical-legal evaluations in California workers’ compensation matters. His medicolegal evaluations are written by a working surgeon, not a retired one.
Dr. Lascano earned a B.A. in Biology from Swarthmore College and an M.D. from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his general surgery residency at Westchester Medical Center / New York Medical College, a Level I trauma center, where he performed more than 1,100 major operations and served as Clinical Instructor of Surgery in his final year. During residency, he completed a two-year research fellowship in pediatric surgical oncology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He then finished his clinical training with a Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Saint John’s Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, performing more than 300 major oncologic operations.
He has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in journals such as Scientific Reports, JAMA Surgery, and Annals of Surgery Open. He reviews for the British Journal of Surgery and the Journal of Investigative Surgery. His research has been supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the National Institutes of Health. He won First Place in the Ferdinand C. Valentine Essay Contest of the New York State Section of the American Urological Association for work examining whether commercial hospital rankings predict surgical outcomes — they do not, as patients assume.
Dr. Lascano takes acute care surgery call at community hospitals in Bakersfield, Delano, and Tehachapi. He is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery (2023) and holds an active California medical license. He is fluent in English and Spanish, with native proficiency in Spanish, which he uses directly in his clinical surgical practice.
