Emmad Karmouta, MD

Dr. Emmad Karmouta is a board-eligible psychiatrist with extensive clinical training in inpatient and emergency psychiatry, as well as research experience in sleep and behavioral neuroscience. He is currently serving as an Inpatient Psychiatrist at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Traditions Behavioral Health in California, where he manages a 15-bed voluntary psychiatric unit treating patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders. In this role, he leads a multidisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.

Dr. Karmouta completed his psychiatry residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, from 2021 to 2025, serving as Chief Resident in his fourth year. During residency, he gained extensive experience in emergency psychiatry, logging over 500 hours in the psychiatric emergency department, and also provided weekend inpatient coverage for Hartgrove Hospital, managing caseloads of 25–40 adult and child patients per weekend.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Rosalind Franklin University in 2021, following a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of California, Davis, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received multiple academic honors.

In addition to his hospital-based work, Dr. Karmouta maintains a private outpatient psychiatric practice in Santa Barbara, Noor Psychiatry and Wellness, where he provides evidence-based, patient-centered care for a broad range of psychiatric conditions.

He holds active medical licenses in Illinois and California, is DEA-certified, and maintains current ACLS and BLS certification. He has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics ranging from sleep restriction in adolescents to catheter-based therapies for deep vein thrombosis. His clinical philosophy emphasizes evidence-based care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and compassionate treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.
