Dr. Fadi Alhatem is a board-certified physician specializing in psychiatry and interventional pain medicine. He currently practices as a locum interventional pain physician. He previously practiced with the Cedars-Sinai Health Network in Beverly Hills, California, from January 2019 through October 2025. During his tenure at Cedars-Sinai, he served on the Opioid Steering Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Pfizer New Pain Platform and OA Patients Committee, and the LGBTQ+ Physician Working Group. He was faculty with the Cedars-Sinai Pain Medicine Fellowship from December 2020 through October 2025 and served as a Cedars-Sinai physician mentor from January 2023 through October 2025.
Dr. Alhatem earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Damascus University in Damascus, Syria, completing his medical education from September 1995 through December 2002. He completed postgraduate training as a general practitioner at The Italian Hospital in Damascus from January 2003 to March 2004 and an internship in internal medicine at Syrian Red Crescent Hospital in Damascus from January 2004 to March 2004. After completing the USMLE/NRMP match process in the United States (April 2004–May 2005), he pursued a residency in General Psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois, from June 2005 to June 2009, where he also served as Chief Inpatient Resident.
He subsequently completed an Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship at Dartmouth Medical School in Lebanon, New Hampshire (June 2009–June 2010), followed by a Senior Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington (July 2010–July 2011).
Dr. Alhatem is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He currently holds an active medical license in the state of California. He is fluent in English and Arabic.
Awards and honors include ranking 7th in the Syrian Nationwide Medical School Entrance Exam (August 1995) out of 60,000 examinees; an Award for Academic Excellence (June 2009) for scoring at or above the 90th percentile nationwide on the neurology and neuroscience portion of the PRITE; the Award for Best Performance in a Leading Role (November 2012) associated with Joint Commission Accreditation at Niagara Health Center; the Circle of Friends Honor Award (April 2021) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; the Patient Experience Shout-Out Award (May 2022) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Network; and Standing Ovation Awards (February 2023 and March 2023) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Network.
