Dr. Irina V. Williams is a distinguished and Double Board-Certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Management Specialist, recognized for her expertise in both clinical practice and healthcare leadership. Dr. Williams completed her Anesthesiology residency at Wayne State University’s Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, followed by a prestigious Interventional Pain Management Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
In her clinical role, Dr. Williams specializes in the treatment of complex pain conditions, including spine disorders, musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), fibromyalgia, and chronic pain related to trauma and substance use disorders. She is adept in various interventional procedures, utilizing fluoroscopy and ultrasound-guided techniques to manage chronic pain effectively.
Dr Williams built and developed an Interdisciplinary Pain management service within Alameda Health System. Under her leadership, the Pain Medicine Division at AHS has seen substantial growth, including the successful launch of a Spinal Cord Stimulator service and the establishment of a comprehensive Interdisciplinary Spine Program. Dr. Williams’ innovative approach to pain management has led to significant improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Beyond her clinical achievements, Dr. Williams is a seasoned healthcare leader with extensive experience in policy development, medical staff management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has held pivotal roles at Alameda Health System, including Interim Vice Chief of Medical Staff and Chief of Medical Staff, where she was instrumental in overseeing credentialing processes, enhancing patient safety protocols, and leading the development of new clinical services. Her leadership was particularly vital during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she spearheaded the implementation of telemedicine Pain management services to ensure continued patient care. In addition, Dr Williams was appointed as an Ambulatory Specialty physician lead working as a dyad partner with the Interim Chief Ambulatory officer to support specialty services across the health system.
Dr. Williams holds a Master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Cornell University and has completed various leadership training programs, including those focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She has chaired multiple committees, such as the Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, Ambulatory Specialty Operations Committee and the Professional Standards Committee, demonstrating her commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism and patient care.
