Dr. Jason Richardson is a distinguished sport psychologist, mental health and performance coach, and executive coach based in Carlsbad, California. With over a decade of clinical practice and extensive experience in elite athletics, Dr. Richardson provides tailored expertise to athletes, performers, executives, and entrepreneurs, focusing on team chemistry, leadership cohesiveness, and optimal performance outcomes.
As the Founder of Dr. Jason Richardson, Inc. since August 2010, he trains and educates clients on goal-setting, performance profiling, visualization, and planning. He applies assessment, neurological, and behavioral strategies drawn from his professional athletic career and business ownership, while conducting on-site health evaluations, setting KPIs, and guiding organizations and individuals toward achieving personal and professional goals.
Since July 2019, Dr. Richardson has served as an Executive Coach at the Center for Creative Leadership, supporting leaders’ personal development, bridging organizational gaps, fostering strategic relationships, and cultivating agile, resilient teams. Concurrently, he has served as Assistant Director of Health, Equity & Access – Psychologist at the University of San Diego since August 2020, where he supervises pre-licensed therapists, provides individual and group psychological services, and designs psychoeducational programs to enhance student-athlete performance across social, emotional, academic, and athletic domains.
His clinical psychology experience spans roles as Clinical Supervisor at Turning Point Crisis House (2016–2018) and San Diego Center for Children (2014–2015), Psychologist at Crownview Medical Group (2011–2013) and Sport Of Mind (2010–2012), Program Therapist at San Diego Center for Children (2010–2011), and Therapist at Southern Indian Health Council (2009–2010). Earlier, he worked as Brand Manager at Rescue Social Change Group (2009) and competed professionally as an elite athlete from 1993–2008.
Dr. Richardson holds a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ryokan College (2010), an MBA in Global Management from University of Phoenix (2000), and a BA in Philosophy from University of San Diego (1997). He is a licensed psychologist with the California Board of Psychology and has trained extensively in CBT, NET, neurofeedback, trauma-informed treatment, emotionally focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and performance coaching. His coaching achievements include 7 Olympic berths, 3 Olympic medals, 8 Olympians, 3 World Champions, 5 National Champions, and multiple podium finishes in World Championships.
Dr. Richardson is also a recognized speaker, having presented at the NFL Players Association Conference, USA Sailing Leadership Forum, UCI BMX World Championships, CONSTRUCT Conference, and numerous corporate and athletic events, while contributing to media outlets including ESPN Radio, USA Today, and The Guardian.
