Lev Basin, M.D. 

Dr. Lev Basin is a board-certified psychiatrist with over two decades of clinical experience in adult and geriatric psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and the treatment of major depressive and neurocognitive disorders. He currently serves as an attending psychiatrist at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center, where he provides comprehensive outpatient psychiatric care. He also works as a psychiatric reviewer with MLS Group of Companies and MDSI Physician Services, evaluating mental health cases with a focus on evidence-based standards of care.

Dr. Basin completed his Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Palo Alto VA Medical Center, where he was actively involved in both clinical care and research related to Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders. He completed his Psychiatry Residency at Maimonides Medical Center, the Brooklyn campus of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and prior to that, trained in Family Practice and earned his M.D. from the Medical Academy of Latvia.

His clinical research background includes multiple projects addressing medication efficacy, guideline compliance, and neuropsychiatric care. At the Palo Alto VA and Stanford Alzheimer’s Research Center, he co-authored a 10-year utilization review of anti-Alzheimer’s medications, published in International Psychogeriatrics. He also presented original research on guideline compliance in depression treatment and collaborated on experimental hematology studies focusing on human hematopoietic growth factors.

In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Basin served as an Assistant Clinical Instructor at St. George’s University School of Medicine and has delivered numerous professional presentations on topics such as Alzheimer’s disease pharmacotherapy and psychiatric treatment standards.

Dr. Basin is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds an active medical license in California. He is a member of both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association. Fluent in Russian, he brings a culturally competent approach to diverse patient populations. Outside of medicine, he enjoys family activities, skiing, and international travel.
