Dr. Neal Adams is a distinguished psychiatrist and public health expert with an expansive career spanning both clinical practice and public health administration. He earned his Medical Doctorate (MD) from Northwestern University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Harvard University, complemented by psychiatric training at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Adams is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has served as President of the American College of Mental Health Administration.
With a career characterized by leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, Dr. Adams has been instrumental in shaping mental health services across various states, including California and New Mexico. His work has involved the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and community health. Notably, he served as the Medical Director for Mental Health in California and New Mexico and was the Deputy Director of the California Institute of Mental Health for over a decade.
Dr. Adams is also a prolific writer, with a significant body of work that includes the influential book “Person-Centered Treatment Planning for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery,” first published in 2005. His expertise extends to forensic psychiatry, where he has served as an expert consultant in both criminal and civil cases.
In his current role, Dr. Adams serves as the Medical Director for Behavioral Health at CenCal Health, where he provides clinical and administrative leadership.
