Sabha Ganai, MD, PhD, MPH, FACS, FSSO

Dr. Sabha Ganai is a GI/HPB surgical oncologist and clinical leader with extensive expertise in cancer disparities, surgical ethics, and complex oncologic procedures. She currently serves as Director of Quality and Safety in the Department of Surgery at Los Angeles General Medical Center and as an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Dr. Ganai earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in 2001, following a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Bioethics from USC Viterbi School of Engineering. She completed a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2004–2007) and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (2015–2017).

Her postgraduate training includes a residency in General Surgery at Baystate Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine (2001–2010), a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the University of Chicago (2010–2013), a Clinical Medical Ethics fellowship at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics (2011–2013), and a Medical Education fellowship through the MERITS program at U. of Chicago Pritzker (2012–2013). She also completed a Senior Ethics Fellowship at the MacLean Center in 2019–2020.

Board-certified in General Surgery, Complex General Surgical Oncology, and Public Health, Dr. Ganai holds active medical licensure across California, North Dakota and Minnesota. Her academic career spans appointments at USC, the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where she has served as a mentor, educator, and research leader.

Dr. Ganai’s research has been supported by NIH, NASA, and multiple national and regional grants, with a focus on colorectal and pancreatic cancer disparities, surgical outcomes, and innovative approaches to training and patient care. She actively contributes to professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, Society for Surgical Oncology, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, and serves on editorial boards for journals such as Annals of Surgical Oncology and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
