Shannon Jans, MD, QME

Dr. Shannon Jans is a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in outpatient psychiatry, inpatient and observation-based crisis care, correctional psychiatry, consult-liaison psychiatry, telemedicine, peer review, and medico-legal consultation. She was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in September 2021. Her professional work includes the evaluation and treatment of adult psychiatric patients across hospital, community mental health, correctional, and remote care settings.

Since June 2025, Dr. Jans has served as a Psychiatry Consultant with Axiom Medicolegal Consulting, Inc. She has also worked as a Peer Reviewer with Improve Health since May 2024. Since October 2022, she has practiced as an Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist with Genesis Healthcare System in Davenport, Iowa. Her responsibilities across these roles include psychiatric consultation, review of clinical care, and outpatient treatment of adults.

Dr. Jans has served as an Adjunct and Visiting Professor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics since July 2021, primarily providing coverage in the inpatient and observation Crisis Stabilization Unit. She has also provided outpatient telemedicine psychiatry through Skypiatrist–Online Psychiatric Services since April 2022. From July 2021 through October 2022, she worked as an Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist at Vera French Community Mental Health Center in Davenport. Her earlier experience includes serving as an Adult Psychiatrist at the Iowa Medical Classification Center Correctional Facility from July 2020 through July 2021 and as an adult inpatient and consult-liaison psychiatrist at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines from July 2019 through July 2020.

Dr. Jans completed her Psychiatry Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in June 2021. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in May 2017 and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a minor in Biology from Iowa State University in May 2012, graduating summa cum laude. Her teaching background includes work as a resident physician, academic tutor, MCAT instructor, and peer mentor. She is a current member of the American Psychiatric Association and Iowa Psychiatric Physicians Society.
