Dr. Paula S. Newman is a licensed clinical psychologist with over two decades of post-licensure experience in assessment, psychotherapy, and clinical supervision across diverse populations and treatment settings. She currently serves as Lead Psychologist at Adventist Health in Sonora, California, where she provides individual, couples, child, and family therapy within the Rural Health Behavioral Health program.
Before joining Adventist Health, Dr. Newman held multiple senior-level positions in correctional mental health for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). From 2019 to 2023, she served as a Clinical Psychologist at Sierra Conservation Center, providing diagnostic evaluations, individual treatment, and pre-release assessments for inmate-patients. Between 2016 and 2019, she was Senior Psychologist Supervisor for both the Psychiatric Inpatient Program at California Health Care Facility and the Enhanced Outpatient Program at Mule Creek State Prison, where she supervised interdisciplinary clinical teams, directed program audits, and oversaw quality management initiatives.
Her earlier work at Mule Creek State Prison (2013–2016) focused on providing group and individual psychotherapy to inmates with complex psychiatric needs. Prior to her tenure with CDCR, Dr. Newman maintained private practices in both Pasadena, California, and Austin, Texas, offering psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and chronic pain patients. Her background also includes clinical roles with Vericare Behavioral Medicine, Children’s Institute International, and Santa Anita Family Service, where she supervised unlicensed clinicians and coordinated substance abuse, domestic violence, and sex offender treatment programs.
Dr. Newman earned her Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, Los Angeles—an APA-accredited program—and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Children’s Institute International.
