Dr. Ramya Ramesh Malchira is a board-certified nephrologist and Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where she has been on faculty since October 2014. She provides comprehensive nephrology care with a focus on chronic kidney disease, resistant hypertension, dialysis management, and complex glomerular disorders. She also serves as Medical Director of Hemodialysis at DaVita Valencia Dialysis and Clinical Lead Physician at UCLA Health Santa Clarita McBean Primary and Specialty Care.
Dr. Malchira earned her MBBS from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, India, in June 2004. She completed an Internal Medicine internship at Morristown Memorial Hospital, New Jersey (June 2009–June 2010), followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at LA County–University of Southern California (July 2010–September 2012). She subsequently completed a Nephrology fellowship at Olive View UCLA Medical Center in September 2014. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine (August 2013) and Nephrology (October 2014), and earned Lifestyle Medicine Certification from the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine in December 2021. She has been licensed by the Medical Board of California since November 2011.
Her academic contributions include serving as Curator for the Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine on Cureus Journal of Medical Science (since November 2024) and active participation on multiple committees at Henry Mayo Hospital and UCLA Health. Dr. Malchira has authored numerous peer-reviewed and non–peer-reviewed publications, case reports, and abstracts, with presentations at national meetings including the National Kidney Foundation.
Recognized repeatedly as a Healthcare Hero at Henry Mayo Hospital from 2017 through 2023, Dr. Malchira is honored by patients for her compassionate, evidence-based approach to care. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Kannada and remains deeply committed to patient education, community outreach, and the advancement of nephrology training.
