Sharon De Cruz, M.D., QME

Dr. Sharon De Cruz is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine (2009), Pulmonary Disease (2012), Critical Care Medicine (2013), and Sleep Medicine (2015). Dr. De Cruz holds an active California medical license (A101209, issued March 31, 2022).

Dr. De Cruz earned her Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from UCLA in 2001 and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of California San Diego in 2006. She completed her internship (July 2006–June 2007), internal medicine residency (July 2007–June 2009), and served as Chief Resident (July 2009–June 2010) at the University of California Davis. She then pursued fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCLA (July 2010–June 2013), where she was named Chief Fellow in 2012, followed by a Sleep Medicine Fellowship at UCLA (July 2013–June 2014).

Her academic interests include sleep disorders, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. She serves as Pulmonary Clinic Physician Lead for patient experience (2025–present) and has been an instructor for multiple respiratory and sleep medicine courses at UCLA School of Medicine since 2015, including lectures for pulmonary critical care fellows and medical students.

Dr. De Cruz has received numerous honors, including Intern of the Year (2006) and Chief Resident (2009) at UC Davis, the Community Service Award at UCSD School of Medicine, and the Honors Research Award at UCLA. She has been the principal investigator for a 2025 Narcolepsy Quality Improvement initiative supported by Prime Education and Jazz Pharmaceutical, and previously received the 2011 American College of Chest Physicians California Chapter Clinical Research and Medical Education Award.

A prolific scholar, Dr. De Cruz has authored peer-reviewed research, reviews, book chapters, case reports, and abstracts in pulmonary, sleep, and critical care medicine, contributing extensively to academic literature and medical education.
